Position Overview

The systems manager is responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing the technology platforms that support Michigan Saves operations. This role will oversee a range of responsibilities, including the administration of software applications and the integration of loan application systems, ensuring smooth day-to-day technology operations, managing productivity software, and exploring opportunities for workflow optimization. The systems manager works closely with internal teams to assess technological needs, implement improvements, and ensure that all systems are efficient, secure, and aligned with Michigan Saves’ mission and goals to drive organizational growth and sustainability.
 

Essential Duties

Systems Administration and Maintenance:

  • Ensures smooth operation of core lending, project management, and customer management systems
  • Oversees regular system updates, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to minimize downtime and disruptions to operations
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams (finance, investments, operations, programs) to ensure that technology meets their needs
  • Identifies trends, gaps, and areas for improvement in our technology and recommends solutions to enhance efficiency and user experience

Technology Support:

  • Assists in the onboarding and training of new employees on essential systems
  • Coordinates with external vendors and service providers to maintain system performance and resolve issues promptly
  • Keeps staff informed of system developments and coordinates coverage while out of the office to ensure business continuity for system users
  • Serves as the lead on productivity software, including but not limited to monday.com, Cognito, and Hubspot, supporting staff through assistance and training
  • Evaluates commercial loan origination software and loan servicing software for future use in Michigan Saves’ commercial financing program

System Integration and Process Efficiency:

  • Supports cross-functional teams (partnerships, projects, investments) to integrate systems and ensure seamless data flow across platforms
  • Supports workflow optimization by identifying opportunities for system integration, automation, and process improvements
  • Researches, recommends, and implements new tools or platforms to improve productivity, collaboration, and data accessibility
  • Explores opportunities for process optimization and continuous improvement throughout Michigan Saves and implements changes that improve staff workflow and productivity

Data Security and Compliance:

  • Collaborates closely with the director of compliance and the data and reporting manager to ensure the security, integrity, and confidentiality of the organization’s data and technology systems, adhering to best practices and industry standards for data protection
  • Manages access control and user permissions, and monitors systems for potential security risks or breaches
  • Stays up-to-date on regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, GLBA) and ensures the organization’s systems comply with relevant data protection and privacy laws

Project Management:

  • Leads or supports technology-related projects, from system upgrades to the implementation of new platforms, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications
  • Assists senior leadership in developing and executing the organization’s technology strategy, ensuring that systems align with the nonprofit’s goals and growth objectives
  • Assesses system performance and recommends improvements or new technology investments that will drive operational efficiency and user experience
  • Assists the chief operations officer with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an operational transition plan, ensuring that our technological systems, including software, email, files, etc., are properly transitioned to Michigan Saves

 Training and Documentation:

  • Develops and delivers training for staff on lending and project management systems, technologies, and software tools
  • Maintains clear, up-to-date documentation for systems, processes, and best practices to support organizational knowledge sharing

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent experience
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in systems management, preferably within a nonprofit, financial, or energy setting
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems, cloud platforms, and application integrations
  • Proficiency with system administration tasks, including troubleshooting, user access management, and backup management
  • Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations, especially in the nonprofit and financial sectors
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and social equity

Work Environment

Michigan Saves employees work fully on-site or in a hybrid environment. Work is primarily performed indoors, with extended periods at a computer or on the telephone. The nature of the work involves multitasking, completing repetitive tasks, and having contact with the public and clients.

Compensation

  • Salary: $68,500 – 90,000
  • Competitive medical, dental, life, disability, and voluntary vision
